I'm so sorry about your other German Shepherd. It never gets any easier losing a family member. Giant hug to you and your family. I am blessed to have 8 cats, a Standard Poodle a bunny and one two-legged daughter! (She's 14) I'd love to meet you someday if you get back to FL. I wanted to mention that many animals will walk away and come back into the healing space, it's perfectly normal. The energy ebbs and flows like an ocean, sometimes they want to be near, sometimes further away. Don't let it discourage you. It helps me to visualize my heart as having open doors and the energy flowing forth for anyone who needs it. You can't do it wrong! The animals are the best teachers, follow their lead and have fun with it. :)
Hi Vanessa! Thanks for your questions. Working with animals requires a completely different approach them working with humans. When I took "human" Reiki and worked with animals, I always felt there was something missing. I studied under Kathleen Prasad, author of Reiki for Dogs, and became a Certified Animal Reiki Practitioner Teacher in Feb. 2013. When offering an animal Reiki, you always let them approach you, and never force a hands-on healing. Major difference. They feel the energy much more intensely then we do, and it may be uncomfortable or painful to have our hands directly on them. Also, our frame of mind when offering it is key, if we are not in a good place mentally, or try to focus our energy to one spot, they may very well reject the session and walk away. In my class I teach meditations and techniques you can use to connect with your pets on a deeper level and to help you simply just "be". Animals instinctively know what Reiki is, we don't need to explain it, we just have to give them the choice, and be willing to let go of our control and expectations of the outcome. I'd love to talk with you further if you have more questions. And oh, EVERY animal can benefit from Reiki. You can't offer too much! It can keep healthy pets healthy, and can help an animal heal even before we see symptoms. A good goal is 30 minutes every day. Don't feel like you need to offer it to your pets individually, if you set your intention that all of your pets can accept as much or as little as they like, and visualize the Reiki space as extending outward from you, you can make that space as big as you like. I hope this helps! Feel free to call me if you have any further questions. 239-699-1864 My website is www.spiritofthewolf.biz Take care!! Donna
